Theological Reflections

The land issue has been the cause of the all major conflicts in the world. Many lives were lost and still loosing each day. Many claim to possess the land. The matter of fact, this land and all heavens belongs to God, and everything therein (Deuteronomy 10:14). Now, we are claiming what is not belongs to us. The sense of stewardship to the whole creation is loosing from humankind. God assigned us in particular place for us to take care of and not to misuse for our selfish gain. If everybody will faithful and leave behind selfishness, the world would have been much better place to live.
If one is despised of his/her land, one has to defense it. Defending our land and protecting from encroachers is ones divine obligation. Firstly, it is where God placed us and we are responsible for maintaining that land or that portion of the land. Secondly, we are preventing from future bloodshed. One may be strong now but there will be time that weaker one will become stronger one day. Human story is going through a cycle; someday poor will be in the rich place and rich will become poor. This is human cycle and it is just a matter of time.
Now, no one can say in absolutdity that converting all agriculture land of Cavite into real estate business will do anything good for the Cavitenian. Some opined that even if the people continue to tilling the land, they won’t produce any substantive amount therefore, it is better to sell off for few millions pesos. But if we look from another angle, what will we do once we used the money? Where will we go? This is not friendly world anymore, everything is competition. You can sell your land but after couple of years, your money will not be enough to buy yourself a house in the same place you sold earlier. Aguinaldo was a great hero of the country. He fought for the whole country so also other great heroes of the country. It is even unthinkable to think that they fought with individual selfish motives. It is unfortunate that such great heroic sacrifice should be asked by grandchildren to compensate in materialistic term. If all the kindred of all great heroics of the nation ask the same, the whole country has to give up. Nay! We have to honor their heroic deeds and never to be ask to compensate with materials for it is priceless sacrifice.

Tenants in the Vineyard (Matthew 21: 33-45, Mark 12: 1-12, and Luke 20: 9-19)

No doubt, the parable is subversive and we can see that from the reactions of the chief priest and Pharisees. The parable posts a great challenge and need careful study. In most cases today, it was the owner who is manipulating the poor tenants. The tenants are the one who are tossing and twisting by landlord. Now, certainly we are not identifying with errant tenants in the vineyard. The great challenge here for a pastor is “where can we fit in to the parable?” We are neither tenants nor the owner. Who are we then? We are other tenants who will be given the vineyard by the Landlord! How can we draw meaning and purpose from such subversive parable is a great challenge. In the present world, the resemblances we can observe with that of the errant tenants are our politicians and those big business people who are money mongers. I don't understand!

The meaning of Christian has been jeopardize and damaged by some "holier than thou" people. Something is terribly missing the today's Christian. As far as the meaning of Christian is concern, it means follower of Christ! not something like religion of sect of this world. Many Christians missed the core value and principle of the Christian. Christ is all about loving, caring, sharing, and giving to all those who are deprived of such. It is easy to love those who are able, easy to care for those are well to do, easy to share with those whom we trust, generous to give to those who can give us back some day! Absolutely there is complete absent of Christian value in this kind of actions and way of life. I hate myself when I found in one those situations.
