Chapel service

The sermon was on the account of Abraham trying to sacrifice his son Isaac as an act of obedience to God's demand. The sermon was indeed a challenge to interprate how evil actions could possibly be a revelation. She was mentioning about Abraham, Sarah and Hagar as "love triangle". If I am not mistake, Abraham did not really love Hagar but instead it was Sarah who suggested the idea of sleeping with Hagar. If Abraham really love Hagar as he love Sarah, I have no problem in accepting the idea of "love triangle". Abraham was called faithful and father of all nations. But I observed Sarah as controlling her husband. I am wondering if Hagar and Ismael were not sent away, what possibly be the condition. Will they live happily with one another or there will be a fight always.

26 June Pauline Theology

The importance of Jerusalem Council of 48AD/CE The council of Jerusalem Council mentioned in ACTS 15 prevented christianity from being two sect; namely the Jewish (Circumcision) and Non-Jewish (Uncircumcision) christianity. It is very important in the history of christianity in resolving the issue of circumcision and gentile christian. Paul took courage to present the issue to the leaders/elders/pillar of the christianity of that time-James (Jesus half brother?), Cephas (Peter) and John. It was the wonderful working of the Holy Spirit from falling apart in such infant stage. The elders commissioned Paul to take the gospel to the non-Jewish and uncircumcise people. So, there is no reason to doubt about Paul teaching. Another elements of the gospel of Jesus Christ is reaching to the poor. It was specifically mentioned the advice given to the Paul. One thing we can't miss about Paul is, he was a good funds collector. Concern for the poor has always been an integral part of the gospel ...

Aquatic Theology

Aquatic Theology The term aquatic theology is refer to how water is related to theology. I didn’t borrow this term from anyone but the idea was inspired by Sis.Lizette Tapia Raquel and Professor George Buenaventura’s Geo Theology. Sis. Lizette suggested me soon after we revived the water pump at the farm that it will be interesting if I write a theological reflection on water. I must admit that I am not a careful writer and I hardly write anything except my term papers and exams. We will realize this fact while you read this reflection. The background of aquatic theology As part of the summer exposure program, we were to revive one water pump which was left unused for many several years. After several attempts, our hard labor finally paid off! Every one present there were excited to see the water gushing out from the old ‘seems-dead-already’ water pump. Why we were so excited about the water pump! Actually we are not only excited about the success of the project itself, we were excited...

25 June, Youth and Campus Ministry Class

Though I couldn't join the class discussion on various issues in doing ministry to youth, I somehow could reflect myself on those topics.Almost all our classmates, except from fellow students from Myanmar and India, shared our reflection on the movie "Saved" (the whole class watched the movie last wednesday). The point of discussion was on the role of Mandy Moore (as Mary Faith or Fay something like that). The role she played was more or less similar to the spirituality of the young people who are involve in the charismatic youth mission today. For example, the pop culture infilterated the worship style. We can't make much difference today between praise and worship group or rock band performing in a concert. Yes, Jesus is Rock! but not the rock of rock & roll. In fact, Jesus is beyond any songs and praise. I am not crtitical about the Praise and Worship but I am concern about the infilteration. Like one youth was misled in the movie, thinking having sex with her ...

The family requested me to conduct this service last sunday. I shared a biblical reflection on our life, death and God's care for us. We read Psalm 23 as our scripture reading.

24June, Bible Study Method

As usual, Prof. Rev has his humorous way of starting the class. "Barthian" can't be better than Barth! How true it is. The only person whom we can't excell beyond is Jesus. We are His follower and we will never outlive Him. So, I am suggesting that we can outlive any human being. In order to do that, we need to develope our mental. We can consult with the scholars but can't allow ourselves to be bound by the opinions and views of those scholars rather it is a step to climb another stair. Now, shifting our attention to the Parable and Myth; parable subverse myth! Like Asian people, Jesus also love to tell the story in the form of Parable. This parable are not a mere story but contain something subversive in nature. For this reason, people (esply the rich and wealthy) can't tolerate such teaching. His teaching empower the powerless and poor mass. So, the lesson we can draw from here is that our preaching and teaching should empower people. We can't hide the ...

24th June, Pualine Theology class

We explore the life of Paul base on his writing. He was the citizen of Tarsus. In those days, Romans granted citizenship to those who worked for them even if they are Jewish or any others races. So, Paul parents must have been working for Romans. He was Roman by citizenship, Benjamite by tribe and he his education wasfrom Greek tradition. So he was exposed to three worlds: Romans, Jewish, and Greek. Paul conversion to Christianity was rather dramatical according to ACTS account. However, his own version of his conversion in his writing was somewhat less fancied. However, having said that, I don't mean to negate what is written in the ACTS. My point is the differnece in describing the same event. Alright, that should not be an issue here. The more interesting fact about Paul is that he influences the Christian more than any others. Some even go to the extend that they did not bother to consult the historical Jesus, who is our only Founder. So, let us be careful to read side by side ...
